About Cotswold Fencing Club .
We fence all three weapons, Foil, Sabre, & Epee, and welcome fencers of all abilities and ages from beginners to experienced fencers. Including wheelchair fencers. Cotswold Fencing Club was established in 1983, and has always had a strong social element, where we are all training and competing amongst friends. 




 Beginners Courses

    The next Beginners Fencing Courses for our three age groups U10, U14 & Adult will take place on Wednesday 18th May 2022.


The courses will be 5 weeks long.

  • Fencing in Glos Cathedral

    The Juniors helped by Dave & Andrew promoted fencing at the Gloucestershire School Games Closeing Ceremony in Gloucester Cathedral this year. They demonstarted foil fencing and then gave people the opportunity to have a go with plastic foils and an electronic training target.


  • Success At GAFU Junior Foil

    Four boys entered the Gloucestershire County Junior Foil on Sunday 6th March 2016. Congratulations to Yassin - Silver  U14 Boys, Bryn - Bronze U12 Boys, and especially to Dylan - Gold U12 Boys. It was a good day, another well run competition, in a really good atmosphere.


  • Success at SW Regional Age group Foil

    Yassin fought extremely hard in the U14 boys foil at this years SW Regional Championships. Remaining unbeaten all day until he reached the final. Which Yassin lost 4-10. Congratulations also go to Izzy Kennistion-Cooper, who came 1st in the U14 Girls Foil. Also to Bryn and Dyan who came 7th & 8th in the U12 Boys Foil. Well done to all who entered.


  • Fencing in Glos Cathedral

    On Friday 3rd July, Cotswold Fencing Club took part in the School Games Closeing Ceremony. Thanks goes to all the juniors that took part in the demonstartion.


  • St Dunstans

    On Sunday 14th June Yassin, Stella, Izzy, Dylan and Bryn took part in the age group competitions at St Dunstans. Dave represented the seniors in the foil. It was an enjoyable competition, with Yassin finishing second in the U13 boys, and after 2 rounds of pools it was the first fight he had lost all day.


  • Stella at the Nationals

    Stella Breeze is the first Cotswold Fencing Club Junior to compete at the nationals, after qualifying at the SW regionals. Stella did reasonably in the pool fights, but was narrowly beaten in the first DE. Coming 41st.


  • Cotswold Success at the GAFU County Junior Foil

    Cotswold Fencing Club did well at this years Gloucestershire County Junior Foil. With Jess coming 5th, Yassin and Dylan comung 3rd, and Stella, and Adam coming 2nd in thier respective age groups.


  • Witsun Fencing Day

    Tuesday 26th May 2015, Kevin will be running a Witsun Fencing Day, starting at 10:50 am and finishing at 16:10pm. The cost of the Day is £22, or £12 for a half day. The aim of the day is to enjoy fencing.


  • Fencer Piers Gilliver claims double gold

    Piers Gilliver was a double gold medallist and also took a silver at the
    British Disabled Fencing Association’s National Championships.

  • Gold In Wawsaw for Piers

    This weekend at the World Wheelchair Championships in Warsaw, Poland Piers has done extremely well he won a Bronze Medal in the Mens Cat A Epee World Cup and in the Junior World Championships that followed the World Cup, Piers took Gold in the Mens Cat A Epee U23's event and Silver in the Mens Cat A Foil U23's event.


  • Cheltenham Fiesta July 2013

    A Big Thankyou to all the members who helped out at yesterdays Midsummer Fiesta in Montpellier Gardens. We gave about 60 short taster sessions with plastic foils, and publicised the club to the wider community.


  • InterClub Match Burford Blades

    Well done to all who took part in our friendly match against Burford Blades last Tuesday. The Junior team won with 10 victories to 6, with many matches going to the last point.


  • Cheltenham Junior Competition

    This is the second invitation only competition that we have successfully
    run. Good fencing was enjoyed by all. There was a great deal of tension
    in the atmosphere during the semi's and the finals (and that was just
    amongst the parents). Congratulations to Jamie Bagnell - winner of the
    U12, and Gregg winner of the U16. Both deserved to win, and had fenced
    well all day. Thanks to the seniors for refereeing and setting up, and
    of course Nat for all her hard work organising the competition.


  • Gold Challenge at the Star College

    Kevin Nelson ran a taster session for 5 members of Cheltenham Town football club as part of their gold challenge, in aid of the Star College. See report on the challenge on the ITV local news wednesday 12th or thursday 13th.


  • First Academy Master at Arms Awarded August 2012

    Natalie Gower is the first member of Cotswold Fencing Club to be awarded her British Academy of Fencing Bronze Master at Arms. This involves passing all three weapons at the Bronze level. Well done Nat!
